Practical AI for business

Where should a small business start with AI?

Start with a task you wish was easier, not with a technology you feel you ought to buy.

Start with friction you can describe

Think about the things your team says every day: customers are waiting, the same questions keep coming in, orders take time to check, or good leads get missed.

Describe what happens today

Explain what happens today. Who does the work? What information do they look for? When does someone need to make a decision? You can simply talk it through.

Choose an outcome before choosing technology

A useful target sounds like “reduce the time staff spend answering repetitive order questions” or “help customers get repair information without waiting for office hours.” That is much more useful than “we need an AI agent.”

Start small enough to learn

Pick one useful thing to improve first. A small change you can try is better than a huge plan no one knows how to start.

Keep people where people add value

AI does not need to own every decision. Some journeys are better when AI explains, retrieves, collects or prepares information while a person approves or completes the consequential action.

Rather explain it than map it yourself?
